San Antonio-Based Credit Union Breaks Ground on New Financial Center

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – In 1932, ten teachers pulled together their resources and signed a charter to form San Antonio Teachers Credit Union (SATCU). Their story was one of perseverance coming out of the Great Depression to provide financial support to all who served in the local schools. Upon expanding its field of membership to help more people, SATCU became Firstmark Credit Union (Firstmark). Although the name has changed, its 90-year legacy continues, and Firstmark’s support for the education community remains stronger than ever.

Firstmark has a vision to help even more people and have a greater impact on schools across Texas, and they are excited to bring a financial center to New Braunfels in the 2700 block of Loop 337. This is their first time building a new location outside the San Antonio area along with a new location under construction in La Vernia, Texas. The credit union is coming to the growing and vibrant community of New Braunfels, and our team is thrilled to introduce itself to the neighborhood. On Wednesday, August 17, Firstmark’s leadership team and several board members had the opportunity to meet a few new neighbors as they broke ground on the new facility.

“We are proud to bring a financial center to the New Braunfels community,” said Nathanael Tarwasokono, president and CEO of Firstmark Credit Union. “Our team is excited to serve current members in the area and to partner with new members on their financial journey. We offer solutions that stimulate savings, home ownership, and financial wellness, and look forward to expanding our reach to help more people.”

Firstmark has been recognized by its employees as a best place to work for the last three years and is a mission-focused credit union committed to making an impact in school communities. Along with offering smart, simple, and secure solutions designed to help members live out the highest vision for themselves, the credit union proudly offers support to schools through the collective giving of its membership. Every $1 monthly impact fee tied to their new Power of the DollarTM checking funds the Firstmark Foundation, a 501(c)(3) Public Charity dedicated to funding projects that help the education community – they are proud to bring their unique model, the power to make an impact together, to New Braunfels.

Firstmark looks forward to its grand opening in the spring of 2023 and for the opportunity to develop new relationships across the schools and community.
